T-Section Highlights with Foils

What are T-section foils?

T-section foils (also called T-section highlights, T-bar or T-zone highlights) lighten fine strands along your parting and around your face, wrapped in foil so the lightener only touches the hair it is meant to. Nothing below the T is coloured, so the result is brightness where you notice it, with very little upkeep.

T-section vs half head vs full head: which do you need?

Choose T-section foils if you wear your hair down with the same parting most days and want to freshen up regrowth. Choose a half head if you want brightness through the sides as well. Choose a full head if you wear your hair up or want to go noticeably lighter all over. Many of our clients alternate: a full or half head, then T-section foils at the next visit.

What happens at a T-section foils appointment?

1. Consultation. Your stylist checks your colour history and agrees the shade and how fine or bold the placement should be.
2. Sectioning and foiling. A T is sectioned along your parting and across the crown, and fine slices are woven into foils.
3. Processing. Your stylist checks the foils as they lift rather than working to a fixed clock.
4. Toning. A gloss or toner refines the shade and takes out unwanted warmth.
5. Finish. Rinse, treatment and a blow-dry so you can see the placement and blend before you leave.

What do T-section foils look like before and after?

Before: the usual picture is a visible band of regrowth at the parting and highlights that have faded to brassy.

After: the parting and the pieces around your face are bright again and blend into the highlights already through your lengths, so the colour looks like it was done all at once.

How long do T-section foils last?

The highlights themselves do not wash out, but regrowth at the parting starts to show after about 6 weeks. Most clients book every 6 to 8 weeks. If you are between appointments and the tone has gone yellow, a £32 gloss and toner on its own will freshen it.

How to look after T-section foils

• Wash with a colour-safe shampoo and conditioner. We use and sell the Davines MINU range in the salon.
• Add a K18 bond rebuilder (£32) to your appointment if your hair is fine or has been lightened many times.
• Ask for L'Oréal Metal Detox (£15) if you live in a hard-water area, as it helps the lightener lift evenly.
• Use a heat protector and keep straighteners on a medium setting.

If you are new to us you will need a patch test at least 48 hours before your first colour appointment. Clients travel to us from Forest Row, Ashurst Wood, Felbridge, Crawley Down, Lingfield and Dormansland.
