A full head of highlights is a timeless way to add light, dimension and softness to your hair. At Michael Todd Hairdressing, this service begins with your safety and satisfaction in mind.

Before any colour work, we’ll invite you in for a patch test. This quick step ensures your skin won’t react to the colour, and must be carried out at least 48 hours before your appointment.

More information

On the day of your visit, your stylist will begin with a one-to-one consultation. This is your opportunity to discuss the look you’re hoping to achieve, whether that’s soft natural blending or a brighter, more defined finish. We’ll also talk about your lifestyle, how often you’re happy to visit the salon, and what level of upkeep you’d prefer.

We’ll then select the right shade or combination of shades to suit your skin tone, natural base colour and style goals. Your stylist will carefully apply each foil section to create a balanced, all-over result that grows out beautifully.

A full head highlight appointment can take 2 hours depending on your hair’s length and thickness. After processing, your colour will be gently rinsed and, where needed, a toner will be applied. This helps to refine or soften the tone, neutralise brassiness, and enhance the overall finish.

To maintain your highlights, we usually recommend a refresh every 6 to 8 weeks, though this may vary depending on your chosen look. Between visits, your stylist will recommend professional Davines hair care to help preserve your colour, boost shine and keep your hair feeling healthy and hydrated.

I won’t be returning after two poor experiences here. First visit I paid for a full head of highlights and a cut, but they didn’t even finish with a blow dry. I left with wet hair despite paying for a full service. But colour was ok so went back. Second visit 4 months laterAgain booked for a full head of highlights and a cut. This time I was in the salon for 3.5 hours. Only my roots were highlighted didn’t know that was a thing. ?? and again my hair wasn’t dried properly because the salon was closing. Once my hair dried at home, I could see it was patchy and just yellow or white on the roots and had clear banding. I reached out to the stylist the next day to fix it. I asked for a toner to fix the color, she agreed told me come in but was told we had to go darker. I agreed only because my blonde had been over-processed and damaged. No other solutions were offered showed her photos couldn’t get that right dark with money piece just a dark toner which we discussed to cover up the mess. The stylist applied a dark colour this wasn’t discussed or agreed on beforehand followed by a toner which was . Again, my hair was left wet until I asked for a blow dry, and even then it was only roughly dried no styling, no care. The final result? I left with dull, dark brown hair I didn’t ask for and hate. To top it off, I was charged again for the color correction another service I didn’t actually want. The owner was present but didn’t step in, apologize, or offer any kind of refund for the damage or poor service. In total I paid £170 for Over-bleached, patchy highlights Two visits where I left with wet hair A dark brown colour I didn’t want blonde to brown how shocking 😒 Zero accountability or proper customer care Very disappointed with the service and outcome. I do not recommend this salon if you care about the health of your hair or being treated with professionalism.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a full head of foils take?
Foiling alone can take 1–2.5 hours depending on hair length and thickness. Total appointment time often extends to several hours when including consultation, processing, toning, and finishing.
How much does Full Head Highlights with Foils cost at Michael Todd Hairdressing?
Prices range from £100 to £154 depending on hair length, density, and any additional services such as cut or intensive conditioning treatments.
How often will I need to come back for maintenance?
Most clients return every 6–12 weeks for root highlight maintenance as natural colour grows out. Toner refreshes may be needed more frequently to keep blonde tones consistent.
Will my hair be damaged by foil highlights?
Lightening changes hair structure, but professional technique, careful monitoring, and tailored formulas minimise risk. Ongoing aftercare—hydrating masks, heat protection, and gentle washing—keeps hair healthy.
Can I get very pale blonde in one session?
Results depend on your starting colour, hair condition, and previous colour history. Very dark or compromised hair may not safely lift to very pale blonde in one visit; multiple sessions may be needed.
What's the difference between weaves and slices?
Weaves use small, separated strands for soft, natural highlights. Slices use larger sections for bolder, more noticeable streaks and higher coverage. Your stylist will recommend the best approach for your desired look.
How do I care for my hair after highlights?
Use colour-safe shampoo, limit washing frequency, apply conditioner and masks regularly, and always use heat protection when styling. Avoid very hot water to preserve tone and moisture.
Will all my hair be lightened?
No—foils lighten selected strands throughout your head, leaving some natural or base colour in between for dimension and contrast. This creates a multi-dimensional look rather than solid colour.
Is this service suitable for all hair types?
Yes, full head foils can be adapted for fine, thick, straight, wavy, or curly hair by varying section size, product choice, and processing time. Finer hair may require gentler handling.
What if my highlights turn brassy over time?
Colour tonality can shift (e.g. becoming more yellow). Toner refresh appointments or at-home colour-safe toning products help maintain your chosen shade between visits.
