Keep your colour fresh, bright and beautifully conditioned between salon visits

Highlights are a wonderful way to add brightness and dimension to your hair. Whether you’ve chosen soft, sun-kissed ribbons or a full head of luminous lift, maintaining your colour at home can make all the difference to how long your results last — and how healthy your hair feels in the weeks to come.

Here are our top tips for looking after highlighted hair, including product recommendations we use and trust in the salon.

1. Use a Shampoo and Conditioner Designed for Coloured Hair
Standard shampoos can strip colour and leave highlighted hair feeling dry or dull. We recommend switching to a gentle, sulphate-free shampoo formulated specifically for coloured hair.

The Davines MINU range is a favourite among our team. It’s designed to protect and prolong colour while nourishing the hair fibre. The shampoo cleanses without harshness, while the conditioner leaves hair soft, silky and easier to manage.

2. Wash Less Often Where Possible
Over-washing can cause colour to fade more quickly. If you’re used to washing daily, try reducing to every two or three days. On off-days, a quality dry shampoo can help refresh the roots without disturbing the colour.

3. Be Gentle With Heat Styling
Highlighted hair can be more vulnerable to dryness, especially if heat styling is a regular part of your routine. Always use a heat protectant spray, and avoid using straighteners or curlers on damp hair.

We also recommend turning the temperature down — many modern styling tools go much higher than necessary.

4. Book Toner Top-Ups When Needed
Over time, highlighted hair can develop unwanted yellow, brassy or overly warm tones, particularly if exposed to sun or hard water. A professional toner at the salon can restore a cooler, more balanced shade in just a short visit.

If you’re unsure whether you need one, feel free to pop in for a complimentary consultation — we’ll always give you honest advice.

5. Treat Your Hair Weekly
A weekly treatment mask will help keep your highlights feeling soft and looking healthy. Davines MINU Hair Mask is a deep-conditioning treatment designed to boost colour vibrancy while leaving hair strong and shiny. Apply it once a week after shampooing, leave for 10-15 minutes, and rinse thoroughly.

6. Protect Your Hair From the Elements
UV exposure, chlorinated water and even central heating can cause colour to fade. If you’re heading on holiday or swim regularly, ask your stylist about protective leave-in products or professional treatments to strengthen and shield your hair.
