A Men's Cut and Finish is a full haircut service designed around you: a detailed consultation, precision cutting tailored to your hair type and face shape, careful detailing of the neckline and contours, and a professional blow-dry and style to give you a polished, wearable finish. Whether you prefer a classic tapered cut, a contemporary fade, or a textured crop, the service is adapted to suit your lifestyle and maintenance preferences.

More information

What's Included in the Service

Your appointment begins with a consultation to understand your hair type, face shape, lifestyle, and how much daily styling you're comfortable with. The stylist will clarify terms like fade, taper, square neckline, or rounded finish so the chosen style is realistic and appropriate for you.

The cut itself typically combines:

  • Scissors-over-comb and clipper work on the back and sides to create clean shape and graduation
  • Scissor cutting and texturising on the top to add movement, balance, and dimension tailored to your head shape and hair density
  • Detailed neckline finishing—tapered, square, rounded, or softly faded—to suit the overall silhouette and how you want the cut to grow out
  • Refinement of sideburns, around the ears, and the nape for symmetrical, clean contours

The finish involves blow-drying and applying suitable styling products—creams, waxes, pomades, or clays—to define the cut and highlight its texture, giving you a smooth, natural result.

Choosing the Right Neckline and Style

The neckline finish plays a key role in the overall look. A tapered or faded neckline gradually shortens the hair towards your natural hairline, following the growth pattern for a soft finish that grows out cleanly. A square neckline creates a clear, straight line that makes slim necks appear fuller and is a widely used classic finish. Rounded corners soften the look if a sharply squared edge isn't what you want.

For the overall style, classic options include side-part looks and layered cuts, while contemporary choices range from fades and crops to textured tops. All are adapted to your individual features during the consultation. If you have fine or thinning hair, the cut focuses on adding texture and strategic layering to create volume without exposing thinner areas. For curly or very thick hair, techniques are chosen to respect your natural texture rather than forcing it flat.

Maintaining Your Cut at Home

Your stylist will show you at least one simple way to recreate the finish at home, including how much product to use and where to place it. Work product from the back and roots forward, using small amounts to avoid weighing the hair down.

Aftercare tips:

  • Use shampoo and conditioner suited to your hair type
  • Avoid excessive washing, which can dry the scalp and make styling harder
  • Book regular maintenance visits every 3–4 weeks to keep shorter styles, fades, and sharp outlines looking defined
  • Softer, classic cuts can go slightly longer between visits, but leaving it too long causes the neckline to look untidy and the shape to lose structure

If you're restyling from a very different shape—long to short, or removing an old undercut—expect more detailed sectioning and texturising work to rebalance the head shape and create your new look.

What to Discuss at Your Consultation

Bring 1–3 reference photos of styles you like; they help your stylist understand your taste and adapt the idea to your hair type and face. Be clear about how short you want the back, sides, and neckline, and be honest about any hair challenges like cowlicks, thinning areas, or strong growth patterns—a good men's cut is designed around these so the style looks natural as it grows out.

Consider:

  • How much daily styling you're willing to do
  • Maintenance frequency: sharp fades need more regular visits than softer cuts
  • Professional or dress-code requirements, so the cut works for both work and leisure
  • How the cut should look with or without facial hair, and your preferred sideburn length

The team at our East Grinstead salon—including Marie, Jade, and Katie—will work with you to create a cut that's tailored, easy to manage, and designed to grow out harmoniously without creating difficult steps or unintended shapes.

I won’t be returning after two poor experiences here. First visit I paid for a full head of highlights and a cut, but they didn’t even finish with a blow dry. I left with wet hair despite paying for a full service. But colour was ok so went back. Second visit 4 months laterAgain booked for a full head of highlights and a cut. This time I was in the salon for 3.5 hours. Only my roots were highlighted didn’t know that was a thing. ?? and again my hair wasn’t dried properly because the salon was closing. Once my hair dried at home, I could see it was patchy and just yellow or white on the roots and had clear banding. I reached out to the stylist the next day to fix it. I asked for a toner to fix the color, she agreed told me come in but was told we had to go darker. I agreed only because my blonde had been over-processed and damaged. No other solutions were offered showed her photos couldn’t get that right dark with money piece just a dark toner which we discussed to cover up the mess. The stylist applied a dark colour this wasn’t discussed or agreed on beforehand followed by a toner which was . Again, my hair was left wet until I asked for a blow dry, and even then it was only roughly dried no styling, no care. The final result? I left with dull, dark brown hair I didn’t ask for and hate. To top it off, I was charged again for the color correction another service I didn’t actually want. The owner was present but didn’t step in, apologize, or offer any kind of refund for the damage or poor service. In total I paid £170 for Over-bleached, patchy highlights Two visits where I left with wet hair A dark brown colour I didn’t want blonde to brown how shocking 😒 Zero accountability or proper customer care Very disappointed with the service and outcome. I do not recommend this salon if you care about the health of your hair or being treated with professionalism.

The magic thing is that my technician knows exactly how I like my hair cut, and just gets on and does it. It works well every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a Men's Cut and Finish take?
A Men's Cut and Finish typically takes 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the complexity of the style and whether you're having a restyle or maintenance cut.
How often should I book a Men's Cut and Finish?
For shorter styles, fades, and sharp outlines, every 3–4 weeks keeps the cut looking defined. Softer, classic cuts can go slightly longer, but regular visits prevent the neckline becoming untidy and the shape losing structure.
What's the difference between a tapered and a square neckline?
A tapered neckline gradually shortens the hair towards your natural hairline for a soft, natural finish that grows out cleanly. A square neckline creates a clear, straight line at the back—a classic finish that can make slim necks appear fuller.
Can I get a Men's Cut and Finish if I have thinning hair?
Yes. The cut focuses on adding texture and strategic layering to create the appearance of volume and avoid exposing thinner areas unnecessarily, giving you a fuller, more balanced look.
What products will be used to finish my hair?
Depending on your hair type and the desired finish, suitable styling products such as creams, waxes, pomades, or clays are applied to define the cut, add texture, and make the style easy to recreate at home.
Should I bring reference photos to my appointment?
Yes, 1–3 reference photos of styles you like help your stylist understand your taste and adapt the idea to suit your hair type, face shape, and lifestyle.
What if I have a cowlick or strong growth pattern?
Your stylist will design the cut around your natural growth patterns—especially at the crown and neckline—so the style looks natural and grows out harmoniously without creating difficult shapes or unintended steps.
Can the cut be styled in different ways for work and casual settings?
Absolutely. A good Men's Cut and Finish is designed to be versatile, looking both work-appropriate and relaxed outside work. Discuss your requirements at the consultation so the cut is tailored accordingly.
How do I style my hair at home after the cut?
Your stylist will demonstrate a simple styling method, including how much product to use and where to place it. Generally, work product from the back and roots forward using small amounts, and recreate the blow-dry or natural finish shown in the salon.
What's included in the price of a Men's Cut and Finish?
The service includes consultation, precision cutting and shaping, detailed work on the neckline and contours, professional blow-dry, and styling with suitable products. Prices range from £40 to £43 depending on the stylist.
